When it comes to getting a job, who you know does matter. Let former co-workers, colleagues and mentors know you're job hunting and ask them to connect you with prospective employers. Join professional associations; attend seminars and classes in your area of interest; or volunteer to expand your professional network and community. Use the Internet to connect and create opportunity. Meet someone at a local seminar? Send them an email to thank them for the chat and ask them to let you know of relevant job openings. Better still, ask them to introduce you to people in their network that may have a job lead or could open doors at prospective employers. Expand your social network and you expand your employment potential!
